A gentle reality check for the good boys and the round cats. We turn your pet's extra weight into human terms, because "0.6 kg overweight" never sounds like much until it's you.
A rough guide, not a diagnosis. Your vet has the final word.
You don't need a scale to spot trouble. Vets use three quick hands-on tests โ try them on your pet right now.
Run your hands along the side. You should feel ribs easily under a thin layer, like the back of your hand. If you have to press, there's padding to lose.
Look down from above while they stand. A healthy pet narrows behind the ribs. A straight sausage โ or bulging outward โ means no waist.
From the side, the tummy should tuck upward behind the ribcage. A belly that hangs level or sags is a classic overweight sign.
Every breed carries weight differently. Find the ideal range and the tell-tale signs for yours.
